How to import alpaca toys from Peru
To import alpaca toys from Peru, you ask a workshop for a quotation, pay half to start production and the rest before shipping, and receive the toys door to door (DAP) or ex works under HS code 9503.00. This guide covers each step, the papers and the rules per market.
Written for shops and importers placing a first wholesale order of alpaca stuffed animals with a workshop in Peru.

How does an order of alpaca toys from Peru reach your door?
An order of alpaca toys from Peru reaches your door in five steps: a quotation, a deposit, production by hand, the balance, then freight and customs. At Tubi it goes like this.
- Quotation. Send your mix of collections, shades and sizes through the order form. Within 24 hours you receive the price, the ready date, the shipping options and the HS code for your customs broker.
- Deposit. You confirm the quotation and pay half of the amount. That books your place in the workshop, and production starts on the date given in the quotation.
- Production. Our artisans in Juliaca and Cieneguilla make each piece by hand. Expect the order to be finished in 2 to 8 weeks; toys already in stock just get your label and can ship earlier.
- Balance. When the boxes are packed, you pay the other half and we prepare the export documents.
- Freight and customs. We ship door to door (DAP), or your own forwarder collects ex works. Your broker clears the goods with our papers, and the import duty and taxes are paid in your country.
A first order needs $350.00 in total, counted over every collection, shade and size together, so a first import of wholesale alpaca stuffed animals can be a small one. The volume prices are on how ordering works.
How do you pay a supplier of alpaca toys in Peru?
You pay Tubi in two equal parts: 50% to confirm the quotation and start production, and 50% when the order is ready, before the boxes leave Peru. Quotations are in US dollars, so you can compare them without converting.
The prices on the site are per piece, ex works. With door to door delivery the freight is a separate amount on the quotation. Import duty, VAT or sales tax and your broker's fee are not on it, because they are paid in your country.
Your landed cost per piece is the order value plus freight, duty, taxes and clearance, divided by the number of pieces. That is the figure to set your retail price on.
Which documents do you need to import alpaca toys from Peru?
To import alpaca toys from Peru you need a commercial invoice, a packing list, a certificate of origin, the transport document and the safety papers for your market; Tubi supplies the shipping papers with the order and the test results on request. Customs in your country works from this set.
- Proforma invoice, with the quotation, so you can arrange payment and let your broker check the figures in advance.
- Commercial invoice, issued by the workshop itself, with the value and the number of pieces. Customs calculates the duty from it.
- Packing list, box by box, with the weights. An export box measures 78 × 58 × 78 cm.
- Proof of origin, showing the toys were made in Peru. You need it to claim the lower rate under a trade agreement, such as 0% duty in the EU. Each agreement has its own form; name your country and ask for it with the quotation, and we arrange it with the order.
- Safety papers: every alpaca is tested to EN 71 and ASTM F963 and passes, and the results are shown and sent on request. For the EU there is the Declaration of Conformity, for the US the CPSIA certificate. The full list is on our toy safety and compliance page.
- Air waybill or bill of lading, issued by the carrier. When you collect ex works, your forwarder issues it.
From you we need the number your customs uses to identify an importer: an EORI or VAT number in the EU, an importer of record number in the US.
Which HS code do alpaca stuffed animals use?
The HS code for alpaca stuffed animals is 9503.00, the heading for dolls and other toys. Tubi puts the code on every quotation, so your broker can check the rate before you order.
The fur does not change this. The notes to Chapter 43, the chapter for furskins, exclude the toys of Chapter 95, so a toy covered in alpaca fur is classified as a toy and not as an article of fur.
The first six digits are the same in every country, and each country adds its own: the EU uses eight digit codes under 9503 00, the US ten digit numbers under 9503.00.00, split by age group. The general US duty rate for 9503.00.00 is free.
The rugs are not toys and fall under other headings; their codes come with the quotation.

How are alpaca toys shipped from Peru, and how long does it take?
Alpaca toys from Peru are shipped by courier, air cargo or sea freight, either door to door (DAP) or ex works (EXW); courier and air take days, sea freight takes weeks. With DAP, delivered at place, we book the transport to your address and you clear customs and pay the import charges. With EXW, your forwarder collects at the workshop and arranges everything from there, export included.
The size of the order decides the carrier. A few boxes go by courier or post. A larger order goes as air cargo from Lima, and a full pallet load or more can go by sea from the port of Callao.
Customs clearance at both ends comes on top of the transit time. Add the transit time your carrier gives to the ready date on the quotation to know when the toys reach your shelf.
For a freight quote you need the volume. One 78 × 58 × 78 cm export box holds 200 Mini, 90 Small, 40 Medium and 20 Large.

European Union
Alpaca toys made in Peru enter the EU at 0% duty with proof of Peruvian origin, under the EU trade agreement with Colombia, Peru and Ecuador, applied to Peru since 1 March 2013. Toys must meet the Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC and carry the CE mark; the new Toy Safety Regulation (EU) 2025/2509 takes its place from 1 August 2030. Read our guide to importing alpaca toys from Peru into the EU for duty, VAT and what the importer must do.
United States

Import costs can differ or change with recent tariffs, so confirm the current rate with your customs broker before you order, and see our guide to importing alpaca toys from Peru into the US.
United Kingdom

Japan
Japan and Peru have had an Economic Partnership Agreement since 1 March 2012, and both are also in the CPTPP. Japan's Food Sanitation Act sets standards for toys for infants that may come into contact with the mouth; the ST mark of the Japan Toy Association is voluntary.
South Korea
The Korea-Peru Free Trade Agreement took effect on 1 August 2011. Toys come under the Special Act on the Safety of Children's Products: before sale or clearance they are tested by a designated agency and carry the KC mark.
Canada

Middle East
Peru has no trade agreement in force with a Gulf state, though it is negotiating one with the United Arab Emirates. In the Gulf states, toys fall under the GCC Technical Regulation on Children's Toys and carry the G mark after assessment by a notified body.
